Banting is one stop on SD43's French Immersion map, which runs across Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra under one district application process. Programs of Choice applications for Kindergarten (Early FI) and Grade 6 (Late FI) open each January, with a random draw when applications exceed spaces.
Early FI continues at École Banting and École Maillard middle schools, then École Dr. Charles Best Secondary. Late FI (Grade 6 entry) is at École Montgomery Middle on Edgewood Avenue.

No. Banting runs Early French Immersion continuation only. It used to host Late FI too, but in 2017 SD43 decided to move that program to Montgomery Middle, phased in from Grade 6 starting September 2018. Today SD43's Late French Immersion (Grade 6 entry) runs at École Citadel, École Moody and École Montgomery. If your child hasn't been in immersion and you want French from Grade 6, you apply for Late FI through SD43's Programs of Choice process, not through Banting.
Continuation follows your child's Early FI elementary, not your home address. SD43 lists two Coquitlam middle schools that continue Early French Immersion — École Banting and École Maillard — fed by its Coquitlam Early FI elementaries (Nestor, Panorama Heights, Porter Street and Rochester, plus Westwood in Port Coquitlam). Before you buy for FI, ask the elementary office or SD43 which middle school that school's FI students move on to, and plan the whole Kindergarten-to-Grade-12 route from there.
SD43 relocated it. In its December 2017 Programs of Choice decision, the district moved Glen Elementary's Early French Immersion program to Westwood Elementary in Port Coquitlam, phased over six years beginning with Kindergarten in September 2018, with sibling clauses for families already enrolled. Glen no longer appears on SD43's list of Early FI elementaries; École Westwood does. If you're buying near Glen because of older advice about FI, check the Westwood pathway — and its catchment — instead.
SD43 states that about 80% of instruction is in French for Early French Immersion students in grades 6–8, dropping to about half in grades 9–10 at secondary. At Banting, the principal's message describes the school as roughly 67% English-program and 33% French Immersion classes, so FI students share the building, electives and teams with a larger English-program cohort.

SD43's capital-projects page shows the Banting replacement was announced in October 2014, the contract awarded in February 2017 and construction started in April 2017, with the old school demolished by January 2019 and a new parking lot finished in January 2020. For buyers, that means the school building itself isn't a pending construction project — the catchment questions are about boundaries and programs, not disruption.
Possibly, but it isn't guaranteed. SD43's cross-catchment process runs in February for the following school year, and seats are filled by random draw based on space — siblings of current students first, then SD43 residents, then out-of-district families. Students who live in the catchment have priority. If Banting's English program is the goal, buying inside the catchment is the reliable route; I confirm the address with the SD43 School Locator before any offer goes in.

First I ask which stream you're buying for. For the English program, the address is everything. For Early French Immersion, the elementary your child attends decides whether they continue at Banting or Maillard, so we confirm that pathway with the school or SD43 before shortlisting homes.
For each home I run the address through the SD43 School Locator for elementary, middle and secondary separately, because they are drawn independently. I keep that check inside the subject-removal period, so you're not relying on a listing remark or a neighbour's memory.
SD43 doesn't run regular school buses, so I look at the actual route from the front door to Banting Street — sidewalks, crossings and hills — and how drop-off would work if your child is in FI and coming from further away.
