Coquitlam Parks
Lafarge Lake was not always a lake. From the 1950s through 1965 the site was a gravel quarry operated by Lafarge Canada. The cement company donated the site to the City in the mid-1980s; reclamation, natural springs filling, and pathway development followed. Town Centre Park officially opened in May 1989. Today the lake hosts Lights at Lafarge — Metro Vancouver's largest free outdoor winter lights display.

Town Centre area residents (North Coquitlam high-rises, Burquitlam-adjacent buildings) walk to Lafarge Lake. The Lights at Lafarge tradition — Coquitlam families and grandparents bringing kids to walk the lake from late November through January — is one of the city's signature shared experiences.
